So what exactly is Thai massage?

Thai massage involves gentle stretching of muscles using pressure from a therapists palm, thumbs and feet. It is performed over loose fitting clothing on a thin mattress or mat. No oils or lotions are used. This is massage without the frills. There are no oils, no paper knickers and absolutely no wind-chime music. It’s the kind of treatment that leaves you feeling revived rather than meditative. It's massage for purists and while deeper stretches and pressure is optional, the chances are you are more likely to be breathing in to stretches you never thought possible, than drifting off. But don’t let a few muscle-melting yogic-style stretches put you off. The effects of this acupressure massage are amazing.

How long does it last?

It's not unusual for a massage in Thailand to last three hours! But the longest you can book at Manchester Thai Massage is two hours long. We recommend one and half-hours for your first session.

Will it hurt?

No. Most people imagine that Thai massage entails some kind of extreme back-cracking, back-walking manipulation. It will reach parts of you that other massages don't, but your muscle tone and personal preference will dictate the pressure applied.

Why is it different to western massage?

Western massage is more concerned with specific anatomy than Thai. In Thai massage the practitioner’s work is much more involved in the consciousness and touch. The techniques are applied slowly and continuously to avoid the chance for injury and unlike the continuous strokes like those used in western-style massage, TTM uses point pressure, muscle stretching and compression in a rhythmic movement of gentle rocking.
